What social and belief factors do you consider when choosing your friends? Obviously you have to have something in common with them in order to be their friend and not want to strangle them any time a topic comes up where an opinion is stated. The biggies I see are...
1. politics (republican/democrat, conservative/liberal, etc)
2. parenting choices (breastfeeding, SAHM/WOHM, vaccinations, etc)
3. religion and faith
4. movies/reading interests
5. fashion
6. music
What are important factors for you in a friend? Would you rather not know the position of your friends in fear of not agreeing, or do you prefer difference? Personally, I prefer differences amongst my friends. How boring would it be to talk to everyone who believes the exact same thing I do???
(But if you DON'T WANT TO KNOW, DON'T READ ANY FURTHER...I'LL WAIT...)

Of course, it makes it very hard for me when it comes to politics as once upon a time I was VERY vocal and ready to debate my position with people...now I hold my tongue with my teeth (although I still get my laughs from John Stewart each night). I keep politics out of my public life...except for funny stuff which I laugh at both sides of the isle so no political stands from me when I post something I find funny.
So I will just put my beliefs down in short summary...
1. conservative democrat (yes there is such a thing)
2. breastfeeding, woh mama who stabs her kids with every vaccination out there and believes in spanking and using candy as bribery with a 3 year old.
3. Follower of Jesus Christ
4. Science fiction gal...chick flick romantic movies make me laugh
5. no fashion sense whatsoever. Growing up my wardrobe consisted of things from kmart and jcpenney when we could afford it. Even my wedding ring is avon and cost me 8.00.
6. Gospel and country...this has greatly changed over the years. I appreciate and enjoy all music, but my ipod and cd player is usually playing David Phelps.

ReplyDelete2. extended breastfed (twins till 15 months, Addie till 2) YES! To vaccinations--it is the pediatric nurse in me. Attachment parenting, babywearing hippie SAHM. No spanking.
3. Agnostic. I don't think I will ever know the answers of life (well, other than 42). I am okay with not knowing and enjoying the mystery & beauty of life.
4. Lisa is my movie twin. I like sci fi, chiks kicking butt, the 80's. I love comedy and rarely watch drama unless it is educational.
5. Fashion??? Not these days. I try to dress nice. I fear Oprah hounding me at the mall one day telling me how I should not be wearing that.
6. Punk, indie/alternative, 60's-80's music, classical, folk. I avoid country.
