I consider myself a fairly educated voter. I know how to research candidates to see how they have voted in the past and what their ideas are. Knowing this, I find it hilarious and pathetic the smear campaigns against candidates. This is not a new thing...it has gone on for over a century. But when a candidate deliberately presents false information as fact I find dispicable because they know that MOST voter do NOT do their research and base their opinions on those ads instead of the facts.
I will admit, I ALMOST fell for this one. In the election for Ohio's Secretary of State, 2 candidates Jon Husted and Maryellen O'Shaughnessy are running pretty hard against one another. Husted's campaign (or supporters) created an ad about how O'Shaughnessy voted herself pay raise while businesses in Ohio were laying people off. Now when I first heard that my jaw did drop a little. If it were true I would be offended. So being me, I researched it to 1) find out if it was true, and 2) if true then investigate the others running for office because I definitely would not have been considering her. Well, according to my favorite (because of it's complete lack of bias) political statement checker, Husted completely made that up. HERE is the link about that.
The lies don't exist on only one side of the political fence. Both sides are guilty of passing craziness off as truth to try to sway voters. Here is the OHIO TRUTH-O-METER for a few of the candidates.
Bottom line. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a little research on your candidates before voting and quit relying on TV ads and CHAIN EMAILS! If you are a voter that just votes along the party line, then good luck...party lines aren't meaning much these days. The democratic party is divided down the Obama supporter/Obama deserter groups, and the Republicans are divided down the Tea Party line. One party voting just isn't cutting it in this election. If you don't know who you are voting for, then DON'T vote in that particular category....you are not doing anyone any favors by voting for someone you know nothing about.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
