I am listening to Christmas music as I type this. Some may act in horror at the fact that Christmas music is playing, saying it is too early or I am skipping over Thanksgiving or I am going to get burnt out on Christmas music.
Welp, it's not too early for me, and since it is my blog, I will explain my reasoning. :)
Growing up, my child mind always associated Thanksgiving with the "holiday season." I never got the whole happy holidays/merry Christmas debate because I lump Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's into the Happy Holidays salutation. So the holidays always started after Halloween for me. I can even see Halloween included in it as the last months of the year are all at the end of the month consistent. No other time of year has so many major holidays so close. I don't generally include Halloween though because growing up we didn't make as big of a deal about it, but it was kind of a gateway to the "holiday" season.
This lumping of the holidays was aided by the marketing of Christmas items, even though it starts WAY earlier now than it did when I was a kid. Home Depot completely skipped Halloween this year and had Christmas stuff up in mid October! Also, Santa is the last person in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, so to my child mind growing up, Thanksgiving was the holiday season that included Santa.
In recent years I have tried to hold off on my Christmas feelings until after Thanksgiving...more recently until after my son's birthday, which is December 3. But as they say on Star Trek, resistance is futile. I love Christmas too much to limit it to just December.
And now, today, I discovered (with the help of Facebook friends) that Starbucks has their Christmas drinks back...my FAVORITE drink! Yeup, from now on it's Christmas music and holiday cheer!
Happy Holidays!!!
I love listening to Christmas music too! I have put off taking my Halloween decorations down until this weekend... then the Thanksgiving decor shall make its appearance!
