The Lost Art

While doing a little straightening up (can't call it cleaning because it is still messy), I found a journal I was given as a birthday present in 2008 when I turned 30.  I started looking through it.  There were 2 entries.  LOL.

That got me to thinking about how we have seemed to lose the art of writing nowadays.  By writing, I mean ink stain on the hand, writer's cramp in the fingers, cursive writing and not the typing we do for our blogs.  Since the last entry in that journal I have basically posted anything I would write in there on my facebook wall.  I learned a long time ago to never write deep dark secrets down that would end up getting me into trouble if ever found after a certain family member used to read my journal as a kid then make fun of me or tell on me if I said anything bad about my mom (which was used as ammo for YEARS to justify her reasoning that I somehow hated her).

Even though blogs are easier, neater  in terms of legible, and faster for most, there is something to be said about a handwritten note.  Thank you notes are still sent in the mail, and they are usually handwritten.  Why?  Because they mean more than when a typed note is sent, even if the typed note is personalized.  Maybe handwritten journals mean more because they take a little more effort to write.  That is probably why I am so far behind.

So I am going to start hand writing a journal again.  That does not mean I am going to stop blogging.  My journal will simply be daily (or more realistically, weekly) accounts of my life; the little mundane details that no one but me will care about in 5 years.  It sounds like fun!

Hope I remember how to write in cursive! ;)
